Members & Fellows Outing: Day at Rosicrucian Park

April 28, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm

$15

ODD SALON MEMBERS & FELLOWS ONLY

Join us for a day out exploring the Rosicrucian Park in San Jose, home to one of the most extraordinary research libraries of esoteric, alchemical, and Hermetic works in the country, a peace garden and labyrinth, historic planetarium, alchemy exhibit, and an exceptional collection of Egyptian antiquities.

Founded in 1927 by American artist, occultist, and Rosicrucian author Harvey Spencer Lewis, the five acre park park is the headquarters of the English Grand Lodge for the Americas of the Ancient Mystical Order Rosae Crucis.

The Rosicrucian Park has invited us for a day-long visit. This will be a loosely structured group outing in good company, open for a lot of free exploration and wandering as your interests guide you – you may join us for as long a day as suits your intrigue and schedule. Your ticket includes access to all of the below activities. We suggest packing snacks.

Schedule:

11am-Noon: Visit the Rosicrucian Research Library

After an introductory orientation, we’ll take a look at the rare book room, including esoteric and alchemical rare works from Francis Bacon to Paracelceus and beyond, browse the Alchemy and Hermeticism and general Esoteric collection, and get close up to selected works set out on the central library table.

12:10pm – 3pm: Visit the Egyptian Museum and Alchemy Exhibit

Open exploration of the largest collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts on display in Western North America, including objects from pre-dynastic times through Egypt’s early Islamic era, as well as Assyrian and Babylonian artifacts, and a stunning Alchemy Exhibit, the core of the upcoming Rosicrucian Alchemy Museum. At 12:30, the museum hosts a Rosetta Stone workshop for those interested in participating, and at 1pm we are invited to join the guided tour of of the Rock-cut Tomb Educational Replica. An audio tour of the Alchemy Exhibit by its Curator, Alchemist Dennis Hauck, can be saved to your phone for listening to with earphones.

3:15pm-4pm Visit the Rosicrucian Planetarium and Gardens

We are invited to the historic Rosicrucian Planetarium built in 1936 (the 5th built in the U.S. and the first with an American-made Star Projector), for a 3:30 showing of the NASA film “The 3D Sun”, followed by walk through the grounds, including the Peace Garden, Alchemy Garden and Walking Labyrinth.

The library will be open until 5pm for those interested in further explorations of its collections, and the Egyptian Museum is open until 6pm.

Please note the Museum’s Photography policies: Photography without flash is permitted in the museum galleries without permission. The use of flash, tripods, monopods, selfie sticks, or additional lighting units, however, is not permitted. Any photographs taken in the museum are for personal use only.
