Thanks to everyone who came out for our night dedicated to the bad boys and naughty ladies of the past. In it we learned that at one time citizens of this fine city could go see a severed head preserved in whiskey for $1 on Stockton Street, that brothel tokens were (are?) a thing, and that pigs were considered to be the most aerodynamic of flying livestock options for 14th century mercenaries. There was Carnie slang and a Soapy Smith slight of hands, cross dressing pirates, disappearing ladies, and excellent, research-based reasons to put up slides of both a lounging Johnny Depp and a cross eyed pirate cat. And we have all now learned the hard truths about getting over-zealous in the use of dynamite in train heists.
Thank you to our evening’s speakers Amy Widdowson, Marcelo Pontin, Janelle Slavik, Josh Greenwalt, Matthew Nelson and Ian Dawson.
